Subscription-based sales cart system?

I'm selling a service instead of a physical ("one time") product and need a cart system that can auto-bill and/or send reminders when the subscription is going to run out. This also needs to work with authorize.net.

Any suggestions?

Doesn't paypal do that? I'd figure major payment gateways should be able to handle what you want. Did you check Shareit, digibuy, etc?

authorize.net has an automated recurring billing service. It just takes care of the billing, you'd still need to manage the client subscriptions.

I've been digging through the authorize.net officially approved carts but they either only work for products/one-time sales or they are web-hosted on their servers and charge a monthly fee. I want something we can just host ourselves and be done with it.

I'm considering moving the site to Joomla because they have a bunch of plug-ins that will work.

I just didn't expect this to be so... complicated.

Have you considered Drupal? From what I've seen and heard, Drupal is much more customizable. Drupal has an extensive ecommerce module, too (not sure if it works with authorize.net, though).

I just looked through Drupal and didn't see what I was looking for. If PayPal is your thing they've got you covered but beyond that all payment plugins are in alpha... maybe.

Rand, have you get it working with Joomla?

Drupal supports it in its ecommerce module as AIM. A developer can share SIM support as most gateways have it. Not sure what it means, though.
