Depends on where you live and on your budget.

In Russia, you get highest ROI from going to a summer house with a garden, so you and your kids can actually help your parents grow something, so you could eat lots of healthy stuff in July/August/September and maybe store/pickle stuff for the rest of the year. Berries go to jams, cucumbers/tomatos get pickled, potatos just goes to a storage room for year-round access. More than that: food that you've grown in your own garden, that you watered, harvested and cooked, tastes much better, than any other food.

Since you actually spend a month from TV, internet, work and telephone and actually do it in the fresh air, with lots of healthy food (veggies) and lots of physical activity, it's just the best possible way to spend your vacation.

I like to keep my kids at home and indoors and protect them from ticks, sunburn, car sickness, splinters, dolphin bites, verbal abuse from winos, olive oil, minigolf-ball-in-the-teeth, jellyfish, the healthy smell of country life, wellies and brollies, malaria, ...

Wit, what do you think about a theory that opening kids to mild dangers, such as scratches, ticks, sunburn, splinters and such, lets them grow tougher and learn to cope with their problems themselves, with time?

If you leave your kids at home while you go off for a summer holiday, they will soon toughen up and prolly learn to cook too

Any place with a beach. Lots of sun and sand makes my kids happy and I love it also.
