Well, all sites give you goodies until they reach their peek. Then they try NF and other tactics that make them less loved by the WM's.

I read ONE smart remark on that page. The SEO contest that triggered all this made a point about people not being allowed to use icky tricks. I'd guess that spamming wiki would be one of those tricks. Some influential wiki admin should just contact the Globalwarming people and ask them to OFFICIALLY state that spamming Wiki would not be tolerated... Not to HELP or MESS WITH a site's ranking...

JzG yanked all of the Example links off of the poetry page that had my link on it. A few were definitely spammy (like the flash e-greetings site trying to pass itself off as e-poetry ), but I know a few were def on topic and valid, like mine, and this one, which incorporates Javascript functionality as part of the form:

I'm not saying that people don't spam Wiki, or that it should be tolerated... just that some of the removal is rather one size fits all, with little effort to distinguish what's what.

Side note to Wiki administrators reading this: have any of you noticed symptoms of internet addiction since becoming admins, or are aware of what addiction symptoms are? Not talking about ha-ha, yeah that's funny stuff, but more on the serious side. Similar to what is sometimes found with MMORPG overdose.

It seems to me that a Wikipedia link would still be worthwhile to a spammer. I mean, if I'm selling Viagra, woudn't I like a link from the Sildenafil page on Wikipedia even if Google ignores it? (OK, maybe not the best example

There is already a Drupal hack* to turn all links to WikiP into nofollow ones.
Wordpress etc should soon follow....
