    Officially Done With Go Daddy

Yep, I'm going to blatantly call them out here... because they deserve it.

I used to use them a lot a few years back. Slowly but surely I moved all my domains away because I was unhappy with their incompetent support: I moved all the domains that is except one...

    Today it won't resolve.

I looked at the remote site. It looks fine. .htaccess looks good.

They want to tell me, repeatedly, that the problem is with the Wordpress coding. I tell them that I've got at least ten other WP installations on other boxes, and, I'm having no issues.

    It's obviously a back-end issue.

They still want to tell me it's WP coding.

Sure they're wrong. And, besides... I adore WP and don't like to hear bs claims made against it.

    adios Papa

You sure you didn't have some nasty plugin in there? A nasty plugin is still WP coding to them

I can't see how the WP code would force a URL to not resolve. Maybe someone smarter than me can explain it.

You're using Go Daddy hosting? I have a lot of domains registered through them, but no sites with their hosting.

If you have a lot of sites, why not get yourself your own server? Then you can set it up however you like. Php safe mode a problem? Disable it. Need SSH access? Give it to yourself.

    Hi Robert,

I'm only hosting one site with them..... I've got most of my sites with bluehost who I think are pretty competent.....

I'm also looking at host gator.....

I resolved the WP issue, and, it's sort of weird.... see, for whatever reason, when I deleted .htaccess I could get to wp-admin... anyway, rather than retype, here's what I ended up posting on their boards:

well, I'm learning things about WP every day, and, I think I learned something new today.... you see, I figured I'd switch to the default theme + see if that helped matters any... to my surprise the default theme had somehow been deleted from the remote site...

I didn't know that WP wouldn't function if the default theme wasn't present in wp-content/themes???

So, for the heck of it, I uploaded the default theme, switched to it in admin.. .and sure enough index and site came up ... i was thus able to switch over to my theme....

    go figure!
now, maybe I should not have initially been as harsh... but, here's the thing: I do not think I deleted anything from the remote site... so, is it possible that that was something wonky on their end??? seems sort of unlikely, but, I don't know... and, generally with their support, it seems like they just want to pass the buck and be done with you ...

but, I acknowledge I may have been a little strong in the initial post... I do that sometimes .... I'm human......

btw. EXCELLENT new template here at seor . ....... outstanding!

If a site hangs long enough and you are using IE you will get the message that it cannot find the server, even if it did. Looks identical to the site not resolving. Can also get the same thing if caught in an endless 301 loop... FF will stop after a certain number of redirects, IE times out instead.

Not saying either of those are what happened, just that they could both be situations where it could be interpreted that way.

well, there's still some wonky stuff going on because although the index page comes up none of the links work .....

    i get this message

    Not Found
The requested URL /blah-blah/ was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
    the permalinks are set correctly....
the .htaccess is my standard one that's always served me well....

    I'll figure it out tomorrow

I agree that it could be a plugin issue. Do you run the same exact plugins on other servers? If so, then that eliminates that problem.

It could be the way you have some URL's called in your posts/pages or some php you added. I had to change some of mine, even in WP, do to security features my host added. They were simple changes and I gladly made them if the server is more secure.

I use ChurchQuest for my hosting. I have two sites hosted with them (John Rothra Ministries and FaithTag) and my father's site is hosted with them, too (KeithRothra.com). I've got about 7 or 8 other domains parked with them, too.

God knows where you are, but Google may not. SEO is the key that unlocks search engine success (and a plugin isn't enough).

    Godaddy + Hostgator = Satisfaction

Godaddy domains + Hostgator hosting = Satisfaction
I use godaddy for domains and Hostgator for hosting. I can't think of a better combination than that!

Yep, if the theme you use doesn't have some required element, WP pulls it from the default theme. So it's always a good idea to leave it in the themes folder.
