301 and AGE of a site...

    folks....

I got a question to ask...

I have one site which is 2 yr OLD - I mean google indexed it for the first time 2yr back - and now I do a 301 to another domain, will my NEW Domain's AGE will be 2yrs..or 0.... ????

I know we may get the pR value and BLs, but just curious about the AGE...

Sry if am asking anything which is repeated here.. - if anyone knows the url, please direct me to the right page... -

    thanks in advance,

I dont think so. I haven't paid much attention, so I could be wrong, but I seriously doubt it.

in my experiences with 301's it's been a hit / miss ... sometimes G gets them right, and other times they mess them up big time.

having said that, if you followed the 'redscowl bluesingsky' seo contest that shoemoney recently won, you will see that he 301'd an old domain to his new domain, then pointed a boatload of co-op links at it. not sure if it was the boatload of links, the 301, or the combo of the 2 that put him over the top, but i'm sure the 301 didn't hurt.

    Thanks DD and Tod...

Since we can retain the BLs - sure on our luck - the AGE Of BLs will probably get retained.... isn't it... ?

But when we do a 301... the logic is 'the old one is permenantly moved to the new location' - my guess- So the factors of old sites should carry over to the new one...

But Google is always OUT OF LOGIC... that's why I need your expert thinking...

[0043] For some queries, older documents may be more favorable than newer ones. As a result, it may be beneficial to adjust the score of a document based on the difference (in age) from the average age of the result set. In other words, search engine 125 may determine the age of each of the documents in a result set (e.g., using their inception dates), determine the average age of the documents, and modify the scores of the documents (either positively or negatively) based on a difference between the documents' age and the average age.
i agree patent is not 100% dependable.. but it can show us how google thinks/thought on a topic - or how they want to mis-lead us -

so what may google think on this...

My experience has been a "hit" (as opposed to a "miss"), but it took about an eon and a bit. Google et al eventually showed the correct URL and backlinks, after about 4 or so months.

FYI: It was a simple intra-site forward.
