So, will it make a difference if the first link is nofollowed and the second one isn't?

That sounds like a whole new test to me.

That's a good test. However, I heard that placing a link with a juicy anchor text in the footer of the page(s) helped a lot.

Test results are scary, btw. Pointing links at the homepage from the content will never work, because of the logo link, right? Or img links are not counted here? Another test?

What do you think about:
- using text in the logo
- adding text above the logo and making it a link

Never heard that a second link in the footer would work or help...

Don't underestimate the power of ATL text for images...

Using text in the logo ?... care to explaint... this would be using the ALT text for the logo, but it's already used here... so you must be talking of some other text to be used with the logo... or use the title for the link.

I would just kill the logo link... then monitor how the anchored text link does better than the actual logo setup.

I think users like having the logo link to the homepage.. so what about using an imagemap on the logo instead? you could define the map at the bottom of the html.

Or even switch to an onclick event. I do like the image map idea though, we should test that as well.

I use the h1 as my header, placed over an image called by CSS with nav link code at the bottom of the page. When I changed from a top nav to my current set up - Google traffic and ranking remained constant but my Yahoo rank increased an average of 6 spots and traffic more than tripled.

Take -2007 military pay chart- in Yahoo as an example. Previously I would be lucky to be at the bottom of page 2 - after moved to number 4, almost immediately. For the 2008 chart I am at number one, almost from the get-go. I redesigned the pages as I described above and also removed the meta keywords and description at the same time.
