    Catchy titles
in my humble opinion a catchy title wont cut it anymore neither would freebies or such...linkbait is public relation in disguise. You have to go big or being ruthless like sneaking into a whitehouse party without an invitation (print your url on your shirt forhead etc)

best executed linkbait campaign in a very long time was the australian get paid to live on an island campaign...

I always click to help out the Nigerian fellow who wants to pay me a million or more dollars. I've helped him a few times but I haven't heard back from him yet, I'm still waiting for my millions and my bank says my account has been closed.

making up a connection to your site and product and a highly publicized events like the Academy Awards.

A real estate site writes about how many acres of red carpet at the AA... Skin care writes about how the stars keep their skin nice under the lights of the AA...

Angelena Jolie is Not a member of this forum.

I read a blog post yesterday talking about a concrete company giving away t-shirts to anybody who gave a link then contacted all the people in their industry.

Something to give it a kick start like a lot of twitter followers or amplify com helps.

I am reading everything I can find on linkbaiting and hope to get good at it one day. Someone mentioned read google hot trends for a couple days several times to get ideas about what seems to grab attention.

Link baiting is copywriting for the web. It does not necessarily have to be controversial, but it should give the reader the itch to find out what's behind the link.
