    Domain name age

I've heard that a domain name's age plays a part in helping it a bit with rankings but I want to be sure of a few things.

Is it the actual registration date or the date it was first indexed that matters?

I've also read that as the registration is exchanged the site ranking may be reset? Is this true?

Basically I have a drop that I picked up (didn't know it was a drop) till I looked it up on archive.org We also own domains that was was bought years ago but never really indexed.

Should all domains be at least indexed to make the value better for SEO or is it truly bsed on the registration date?

Domain age starts from date of index.

Exchanging registrations will reset the age... maybe. It really depends if there is a shift in content/focus at the same time (to my understanding).

Links age and gain power over time too.

i just found a domain i had stuck in reserve since 2001 so i will let you know.
I am changing nothing except the content and it didnt really have any on it anyway.
The only thing i wont be able to fake is the age of the links.

It's NOT the age of domain but the age of site as well as its backlinks that matters.

    That's what I thought.
    This helps out a lot.

I think I'll start throwing up static backlinksnow to all my IDN domains that I'm ahead of the pack in 3 years.

I recently put up a site on a domain I had for over a year. There was nothing there previously but the registrar's parked domain page. Once I put a site up, it was instantly indexed and ranked.
