Google removed Page rank for the websites?

I have heard many a times that google has not updated page rank since 18 months and will not going to update ever, is this true? hence there is no requirement to create backlinks to get good PR?

Now a days page rank depends on the quality of webpage and social branding and popularity on internet (backlinks). So if You want to get good PR back links are still important but as well as other factors also necessary. Back links should have from high PR websites.

Yes, Google has stated several times that it isn't going forward with its PageRank program, largely due to backlink abuse. If you use backlinks for what they were intended for in the first place (to attract visitors), both your site's SERP and traffic will increase.

There are many factors how search engines rank your website. Make sure that you are honoring search engine rules.

Yes, we don't even use PR here anymore. We have found that a much more favorable metric is Moz' Domain Authority algorithm (known as DA) and for in-depth, page-level analysis, we use their Page Authority metric.

I think every time that there is an update, google penalized the website who manipulate search engine results.
