    Google and PDF

Is Google able to read the content of PDF documents? I've got some reports I'd like to put up and would rather not alter them for HTML, but would prefer to simply make them PDF files.

I'm hoping G and others can read the PDF content and the keywords it contains will help me.

But I'm thinking G only sees one PDF file, but doesn't see the content.
God knows where you are, but Google may not. SEO is the key that unlocks search engine success (and a plugin isn't enough).

Yes, they can read the content.

For some of the searches I run, PDF's are the top result. I don't like it, but it's true.

    thanks for asking that question....
i'm glad to know the answer....
i had been assuming, incorrectly, that pdfs were similar to swfs in respect to spidering....
now that i know differently, will try to use that to advantage......

I looked into this several months ago. The results seemed to indicate that PDFs cand and do come up in the SERPs but that html documents are preffered. Also, the pages that link to the PDFs tend to get some credit for the KWs in the PDFs. There was a rumor that G prefered PDFs as they are more difficult to change and thus more trustworthy but I did not find any evidence to support this.

So PDF's are worthwhile, so long as they are not the most dominant form of document on your site. This helps, as I won't need to alter my document to look right in html.

I'd still suggest you have your primary content and KWs in HTML but basically, yes.
