Is PayPal unsafe for the sale of virtual items?

I would literraly record every call with them, and let them know that it was going to be podcast, so to answer carefully... and then follow through with that statement.

I leave this one up to skitzzo. I have a feeling that the minute you say you're recording, thye'll hang up. Now I don't remember if they say the call may be recorded, in which case…?????

I just wrote a post about what will probably become the next PayPal (owned by Steve Case and others). It's administered by an actual bank (unlike PayPal), so it should eliminate this whole problem you're having. We can hope anyway.

Just because I happened upon this again today, I wanted to post exactly what Paypal states about their buyer protection program:

These programs only cover payments for tangible, physical goods. All other payments, such as payments for intangibles, services, airline flight tickets, or licenses and other access to digital content are not covered by any Buyer Protection Program that we offer

I mean, what you said they did to you pops goes against everything I know about their policies on digital goods.

Did you guys ever do a follow up on this?

That's buyer protection not seller protection. They don't guarantee sellers unless you ship a real, shippable and traceable item. On virtual items they can do pretty much anything they want. Since these were apparently cases of fraud against PayPal not real users asking for refunds (I say apparently because we never got any info about what was going on), Paypal took the money back.

Simple as that, our only recourse would have been a lawyer.

Paypal is not unsafe for it. You can use paypal as a payment method for any kind of product selling whether it is virtual or physical.
