What better way to follow up our debate on blogging disclosure than with a sponsored review? I couldn’t think of anything more fitting.
Movavi is video software that let’s you “do more with your video.” Basically from what I can tell it’s a dvd ripper/ ipod video converter. Anyway, upon navigating to their site, movavi.com, the visitor is greeted with a professional site design and a solid layout. The design is a tad dark for my personal tastes but I don’t think it would be much of a hindrance in terms of conversions.
At first glance I can tell that Movavi has been somewhat optimized. However, there are still lots of areas to improve. The first of course is the canonical issue or the preferred domain issue. Both http://www.movavi.com and http://movavi.com are active. Of course they serve the same site, nonetheless, one version should be 301 redirected over the other. As we’ve covered before, this will make sure the site receives credit for each and every link pointing to it.
Another very important issue that needs to be addressed is what I can only assume is movavi’s old site convertmovie.com. It’s a nearly identical copy of movavi.com and should be 301 redirected immediately unless there is a very compelling reason against it. At the very least the content should be thoroughly modified to avoid any problems of duplicate content etc.
The next issue I would address would be the page title of the home page. Obviously Movavi is trying to rank well for the terms video converter and a whole slew of other terms, but a title tag of “Video Converter, DVD to iPod Converter, iPod/PSP/3GP/MP4 Converter. Convert AVI MPEG WMV MOV to iPod, PSP, 3GP and MP4 format” is too long and too diluted to be effective. Something such as “Movavi Video Converter” or “Movavi Video Conversion Software” would be much more effective. Sure it doesn’t include all 20 of the other keywords, but having targeted pages for each of those other key phrases would be just as valuable as trying to cram them all into the page title.
Yet another on page issue that could be improved upon would be the H1 tags. You see, currently there are none. Including an H1 tag with the targeted keyword or phrase on each and every page would be a large step in the right direction.
Lastly, there is the issue of the apparent keyword and link stuffing at the bottom of the page. While neither are particularly egregious cases, there’s just no real need for it. If they really want to include the links, do it in a manner similar to the top of the page rather than a large block. If you really feel that you need more content for the search engine spiders to devour, provide them some legitimate content that might actually prove useful to your visitors as well. Then of course there’s the Links page. Again, I’d recommend ditching it. Not only is called Links but you’re openly asking to exchange links and that’s just not effective (at least in that form) anymore.
So, all in all, I’d say Movavi is a decent site that would very much benefit from implementing some solid SEO techniques. The changes I’ve outlined here would be a great start but to really get the most out of your search engine optimization efforts, I’d suggest hiring an SEO. If you are currently paying an SEO, I’d suggest finding someone who’s a bit more up to date with the current SEO techniques and trends.
